University of Sheffield, UK
Foredraget arrangeres af ALF i samarbejde med UCC-professionshøjskolen, København
This presentation will explore the relationship between spoken and written language difficulties from a range of perspectives. It will focus specifically on speech, phonological awareness, and spelling development and difficulties. Workshop activities will be used throughout the day to demonstrate how the psycholinguistic framework developed by Professors Joy Stackhouse and Bill Wells can be used in practice and research. The presentation will include information and discussions of the following topics: auditory discrimination; rhyme skills; articulation; word finding difficulties; speech processing profiling; persisting speech difficulties; children’s views on speech and literacy. Findings from case studies and a longitudinal study of children’s speech and literacy development (age range 3-7 years) will be used to examine identification of at risk children; predicting speech and literacy outcome in young school-age children; and how to define resolved speech difficulties. Implications for planning intervention and service delivery will be discussed.
